All’aspetto èbrillante, di colore paglierino monto scarico. Perlage: fine, continuo, discretante fitto. Al naso si presenta intenso e persistente,abbastanza fine, con netti sentori minerali di pietra focaia e fruttati di pompelmo, limone, mela e mandorla. In bocca è secco, fresco, vivo, molto sapido, leggero ma composto, persistente, con fondo leggermente amarognolo. Retrogusto: sapidità e note fruttate e minerali.

Evoluzione: Ancora giovane.  Voto: 16/20

2° Vino: Cigalus 2008 Vin de Pays d’Oc 2008 di Gérard Bertrand

All’aspetto è cristallino, di colore paglierino intenso. Al naso si presenta abbastanza persistente, fine, con sentori minerali, unori boschivi, fiori di tiglio secchi e mela cotogna. In bocca è secco, appena sapido, caldo, pieno e abbastanza continuo, con fondo amarognolo. Retrogusto: note fruttate, floreali e minerali.

Evoluzione: Pronto. Voto: 15/20

3° Vino: Fruité Catalan Cotes du Roussillon AOC

All’aspetto è cristallino, di colore cerasuolo. Al naso si presenta abbastanza intenso, persistente e fine, con netti sentori fruttati di ciliegia, lampone e ribes rosso maturi. In bocca è secco poco fresco ma sapido, delicatamente caldo, pieno, discretamente continuo con fondo amarognolo. Retrogusto: vena sapida e note fruttate.

Evoluzione: pronto.  Voto: 14/20.

4° Vino: Vin de Pays d’Oc 2006

All’aspetto è limpido, di colore rosso rubino carico con orlo granato. Al naso si presenta abbastanza intenso, persistente e fine, con sentori fruttati di piccoli frutti rossi maturi e lievemente speziati di pepe bianco. In bocca è secco, poco fresco, sapido, caldo, con leggera vena tannica, pieno e persistente. Retrogusto: vena tannica e note fruttate e speziate.

Evoluzione: Pronto. Voto: 14/20.

5° Vino: Muscat de Frontignan AOC 2006

All’aspetto è cristallino, di colore paglierino intenso. Al naso si presenta intenso e persistente, fine, ampio, aromatico, con sentori di fiori e buccia di arancia, confettura di pesca bianca e d’albicocca, e lieve d’ anice. In bocca è dolce ma sapido, caldo, vellutato, di buona persistenza aromatica, con piacevole fondo amarignolo. Retrogusto: note fruttate e speziate.

Evoluzione: Pronto. Voto: 16,5/20.

Considerazioni: buoni vini, in particolare il Muscat e il Limoux, molto caratterizzati dal terroir. Se mi invierà i prezzi di ognuno, ne pubblicherò le rispettive schede.

Chardonnay (60%), complété en parts égales par du mauzac et du chenin blanc. Frais, mousse assez fine, assez sec, accents d’agrumes, finale chaleureuse.

“Cigalus” blanc Vin de pays d’Oc 2008, Gérard Bertrand

Chardonnay (80%) avec viognier (15%) et un peu de sauvignon blanc, ce vin possède un nez profond et mûr, aux subtiles nuances boisées, qui s’entremêlent à des arômes d’agrumes. La bouche est dense, onctueuse, bien boisée, avec un caractère beurré, vanillé, aux accents de noix de coco, qui domine un fruit de bonne maturité, aux saveurs subtiles d’agrumes. Bonne finale. Dans un style un peu “bête à concours” mais complet et assez réussi.

Côtes du Roussillon rosé “fruité catalan” – Vignerons Catalans

Assemblage de syrah et de grenache, offrant un nez de bel éclat, avec des arômes de fraise et de framboise, une bouche de belle fraîcheur à la finale légèrement chaleureuse, marquée d’un fin arrière-goût de réglisse.

Vin de pays d’Oc 2006, Goellner & Redon

Un assemblage de syrah (60%) et de grenache. Rubis-pourpre, très bonne saturation. Très bon nez, mûr et intense, avec des arômes très précis d’olive noire, sur un fond de fruits noirs macérés, mûres, framboises. La bouche est mûre, de densité moyenne, avec des saveurs de fruit noir, de réglisse, d’olive, d’assez bonne concentration. Plutôt réussi.

Muscat de Frontignan “Mas de Madame” 2006, Domaine du Mas de Madame

Bon nez de muscat, avec des arômes de pêche et de melon mûr. Bouche assez riche et sucrée, mois élégante que d’autres, avec des saveurs de pêche, une fine amertume réglissée qui persiste dans la bonne finale.

I like the fact that this wine is very dry. The bubbles are nice and fine, the fruit is youthful, with notes of citrus and pear and there’s an appealing minerality to the finish. Chardonnay does good things in Languedoc sparkling wines.

Fruité Catalan

I’m not a hug fan of the label, or the lurid pink cork, but I supect I’m not the target audience here. The wine is soft and easy drinking, with rosehip and raspberry fruit and pleasant flavours. Could anyone else find the vintage mentioned?

Cigalus

This is consistently among my favourite whites from the south of France: the oak is quite prominent at the moment, but this should settle down in the bottle. The flavours are rich and complex here: peach, honeysuckle, a touch of pear, with vanilla on the aftertaste. It could end up tasting a little heavy, but has lively acidity for balance.

There’s a little bit of reduction on the nose here, but it soon disappears in the glass. The wine is very aromatic, bursting with blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry friut. I like the garrigue spice and the fact that the wine tastes so obviously Mediterranean. Minty finish with medium weight tannins.

Mas de Madame

Hard to contemplate a South of France tasting without a fortified Muscat. Even though this is a 2006, it still tastes remarkably fresh and grapey: honey and marmalade are the main flavours with nicely handled fortification. It would taste even better with a bowl of strawberries on the first afternoon of Wimbledon.

I was lucky enough to participant in the London tasting and here are my impressions of the wines….

Wine One- Sieur d’Arques Crémant de Limoux Grand Cuvee 1531

Pale lemon with frothy mousse and persistent bubbles. Aromas smoke mingled with lemon sorbet, green apple. Vibrant acidity with creamy mouth feel with loads of green apples, citrus.

Refreshing fizz, great value for money. 70% chardonnay, 20% chenin blanc and 10% mauzac with 24months on the lees.

Wine Two- 2008 Cigalus Vin de Pays d’Oc, Gerard Bertrand

Pale golden colour with nose of honey, peaches and crushed almonds. Very dry, rich texture with crisp acidity, more stone fruit, stewed apples and quince with a lingering grassy and touch of minerality on the finish.

Austere and serious food wine which will last in the cellar for a number of years. Mainly Chardonnay with Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc. Unusual blend with the sauvignon giving that stony finish. Grapes sourced from Corbières region, with both chardonnay and viognier in barrel for 5-6 months giving the savoury texture to the wine.

Wine Three- 2009 Fruité Catalan AOC Côtes du Roussillon,
Vigneron de Catalan

Lovely bright pink colour with fragrant aromas of red fruit mainly strawberries, red cherries and a whiff of jasmine. Juicy red fruit, fresh acidity hint of aniseed in the background.

Fresh, lively and perfect for the summer. Mainly syrah with Grenache and Carignan made with partial saignée and pressed wine.

Wine Four- 2006 Dromadaire 30670 Vin de Pays ‘Oc

Deep ruby hue with nose of white pepper, black fruit and bacon. Gripping tannins, crisp acidity with earthy, charred flavours mingled with ripe black cherries and finishing with notes of fennel.

Savoury wine very typical of the region with that defining herbal note. No oak used, 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache with both varietals coming through. Each fermented separately and then blended.

Wine Five- 2006 Mas de Madame, AOC Muscat de Frontignan

Pale colour with pungent aromas of orange blossom, tangerine, honey and peaches. Delicate body, sweet and fragrant with more tropical fruit. Spirit well integrated.

From one of the largest growers of Muscat in the region, 2006 first vintage from the winery and a fantastic debut. Pretty wine that captures the essence of Muscat.

Final Thoughts

Great tasting and good selection of wines- only wish there were more to taste!!
